Shelter has been in the works in one way or another for about 5 years, it started out as a bit of a pipe dream and has since become a pretty amazing reality for us.
The name Shelter encompasses how we envision our taproom; a warm, creative, and inviting space to gather and how we enjoy spending our free time; outdoors around the campfire, in our tent, or in the camper van. These are the places we retreat to and the ways we take Shelter. AND they may also be the same places we enjoy a few brews :)
Being a nano brewery, we are a small operation with our brewhouse being 1.5hl. There are just the two of us at the moment, owners Stuart and Sarah. Stuart is our brewer and he’s been digging craft brews for a long time. He graduated from the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program at Olds College and went from homebrewing to professional brewing to navigating the craziness of starting up a brewery. Sarah will be running the day-to-day operations in the taproom as well as branding and social media.
As a small operation we have steered away from the typical brewery model and are selling directly from our taproom. This means our focus is not on outside accounts or distribution at this time. Our focus is on small batch, prairie inspired brews and the ability to turn out a wide variety of rotating and experimental beers. We are starting tiny and growing small.
We are relishing in the awesomeness of our dream becoming a reality and being able to brew and share our beers with you all from our little taproom in the heart of our rad prairie city.
Collaborating with likeminded individuals has been integral to Shelter coming to life.
We seriously lucked out with our super talented graphic designer Jadyn Klassen, out of Winnipeg. His illustrations are quirky, enduring, and full of good vibes. He has managed to turn the ideas we’ve had floating around into beautiful and solid branding and design, while also introducing us to a world of design we weren’t previously privy to. Collaborating with him means we are lucky enough to see what awesomeness he has brewing for us next.
